About Hunakai Studio

Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts actively encourages lifelong involvement with the visual arts for people of all ages, backgrounds and ability in Southeastern New England by offering a quality program of curriculum-based art education in a nurturing environment and by sponsoring a wide variety of cultural events for local communities.

Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts, Inc. was established as a 501(c)(3) in April of 2005. The school was created to fill a need for high quality professional arts programs accessible to all residents in the communities south of Boston. We offer ongoing visual arts classes for all ages, skill levels and incomes. There are no more than eight students per instructor. Lessons are customized for each participant so that anyone can enroll at any time and be successful. Media offered include painting, drawing, figure study, design, pastels, watercolors, oils, acrylics, mixed media and sculpture. Within each class there is a range in age and ability with students representing varying ethnic, cultural, socio-economic and religious backgrounds that reflect the growing diversity of our communities in Southeastern New England. Only practicing/professional artists are hired as teachers. They are required to work in the studios as role models for Hunakai students as well as actively exhibit.

Drawing and painting are two favorite pastimes enjoyed by many art hobbyists. For the most comprehensive adult and teen art students can trust Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts to deliver thorough and insightful lessons. More than learning how to draw figure and still-life drawings, Hunakai Studio also expands students’ knowledge by exploring ancient through contemporary art works, the important role of art in culture, and teaches students about some of the most influential, medium-specific artists. This well-rounded education allows for inspiration and appreciation of classical and contemporary masters; while helping students develop a style of their own.

Adult and Teen Painting Classes

If interested in taking a class art students should consider attending Hunakai Studio. Teen and Adult Painting classes allow students the flexibility of focusing on one, specific painting-related medium (acyclic, oil or watercolor) or allows students to explore different painting mediums; without having to change art classes. This freedom and flexibility ensures students can continue to develop advanced skills and techniques; while being able to pursue other painting-related art forms. Once the class is completed, students can enroll in another session, to further develop their skills, or pursue an acrylic, oil or watercolor-specific class.

Oil Painting Classes

One of the most popular workshops, classes, offered by Hunakai Studio teaches students to learn and master the techniques and materials required to create an
oil painting. Some of the areas explored include impasto, wipe-out or reduction, full color blending and working with a black canvas. A great class for teens and adults to take, students will also learn composition
drawing and color theory.

Watercolor Painting

Students, interested in taking a different type of painting workshop, should consider exploring Hunakai Studio’s
watercolor programs. While in the class, teen and adult students will receive instruction in introductory skills such as material use, controlling paints and brushes, and working with wet and dry brushes. Other skills including the use of special effects and preparing surfaces, will allow students to receive a well-rounded, introductory course. Finally, great watercolor artists and their works will be explored; helping students gain recognized artists’ knowledge and create a style that best suits their artistic inspirations and aspirations.

Explore Ceramics

Our ceramics programs is new to our studio. We offers classes for all age ranges and all skill levels. Students experience creating their own one of a kind pieces from start to finish. We do not just offer glaze a pre-made piece, we encourage our students to create everything involved. Take a turn at the potter's wheel too. Because our classes are small in enrollment we can offer hands on individual instruction. Clay work is also a great stress reliever for these busy times. Relax and create in clay.
