Spring Into Art During Spring Break Workshops

Calder Stabile

Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts is kicking off spring with some amazing special sessions. Southern New England is a beautiful place to be during the spring, and if your April recess plans are staying closer to home, it’s a perfect time to take advantage of the time off to immerse yourself in art. Check out the special April Vacation sessions being offered by Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts.

Matisse Mastery

Henri Matisse was a classical artist, well known for incorporating cutouts and collage techniques into his work. In our Matisse Journals, participants will learn about these methods and create their own journals or sketchbooks using some of those same techniques. This course costs $55, which includes your materials, and is perfect for kids of all ages. This session is offered Tuesday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Calder StabileCalder Stabile

We all know of mobiles, the rotating crib accessory that captures the attention of a resting baby and keeps them occupied and focused. A stabile is basically the same thing, only it rotates from a base instead of suspended from a cord. Learn how to make your very own stable in the style of Alexander Calder by registering for our Calder Stabile session, planned for 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18. The cost of this session is $55 and includes all materials.

Splashes of Spring

Finally, it’s time to capture the magic of the season of new life. Spring Flowers in Watercolor is a class for adult students where participants will learn how to capture the vivid colors and life of spring through the medium of watercolor. There’s no experience necessary to join this session, which costs $70 plus $5 for materials, if needed. Sign up now for this three-hour session, planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19.

Creature Feature

For those of you who are a fan of science fiction and monster movies, we’re offering a very special Creature Design class during April break. Bring the miniature beast in your imagination to life using polymer clay in this session for teens and adults. This four-hour session will walk participants through the basics of sculpture, allowing you to leave with a completely new and unique creation to display your talents. The course costs $85 plus a $10 materials fee, and runs from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 19.

Springtime Sampler

Finally, on Saturday, April 22, we’ll be hosting a Sampler Day that provides a chance for students of every age and interest to try out microsessions of our courses. There will be sessions of five programs held throughout the day, covering watercolors, oil painting, pastels, drawing and elementary art. There’s a $10 materials and registration cost per session, and depending on the sessions you choose, you can participate in one or two sessions. Check out the full schedule online and register today.

These special programs are offered as part of the exciting workshops offered at Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts all throughout the year.
