Mere copying of nature is not an expression of emotion. Raw emotion, without rules of academic correctness to govern its output, just produces nonsense. Great art, can only come when creativity is tempered by taste, when the design is conscious, and when the form is uniquely suited to the ideas presented.

This class is an atelier experience for the serious student of painting. It offers rigorous instruction in seeing, drawing and painting and offers long term learning where problem solving and projects can extend beyond the quick oil sketch. Using still life set-ups and the model we'll address the correct sequence to working with light and shadow, refining form and shape, and interpreting and understanding color. By mastering the skills of alla prima painting, students progress to create art with depth of purpose and richness in meaning. This class is for students with a working knowledge of the medium and the advanced student seeking to improve their skills.
