Calling all art lovers: open enrollment for our fall classes starts this week!
Hunakai Studio of Fine Arts has a number of wonderful classes on the agenda for the upcoming fall season for art students of all ages. For our youngest artists, we are hosting our Art and the Preschooler class from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays. This class is a perfect starting point for students who are about 4 years old and who have some experience in a classroom setting. We’ll focus on materials experience, paints, paper manipulation, collage and sculpture. This class is perfect for improving your child’s motor skills, and will definitely get them more comfortable holding a paintbrush, crayon or pencil.
For older kids, we are offering a Teen Drawing Experiments class in two sessions: 4-5:30 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Our teen drawing class will teach the fundamentals of line, form, value and shape, while following a curriculum that allows each student to work at their own pace. Lessons will introduce more complex concepts as students progress, including such topics as composition, texture, figure studies and perspective, to name a few. Students will also learn about the work of contemporary and historically relevant artists throughout the course.
For more advanced students and adults, or for anyone who is particularly interested in the art of graffiti, we are offering a Graffiti & Urban Art class from 4-6 p.m. Thursdays. Students in this class will learn graffiti-style lettering, characters and street art techniques like stencil and collage. Participants will also learn about important artists in the urban art movement, such as BANKSY and Shepard Fairey, melding their own experience against the backdrop of the artists who have come before them. Students will work with drawing, mixed-media collage, acrylics, spray paint, watercolor and more to create their own unique pieces of art.
